Apple and OpenAI close to finalizing a deal for ChatGPT on iOS
Apple and OpenAI are about to make a deal to bring ChatGPT to iOS. This is what sources familiar with the negotiations report to Bloomberg news agency.
In April, it was already announced that the two companies were in talks. According to Bloomberg, there is now almost an agreement. Apple and OpenAI are said to have completed negotiations on the terms, allowing Apple to integrate ChatGPT functionalities into iOS 18. Many details about the terms are still unknown.
At the same time, Apple remains in touch with Google to integrate the company's Gemini chatbot into iOS. However, these talks have not yet led to an agreement. For now, Apple, Google and OpenAI are tight-lipped about a possible deal.
iOS 18 may be announced in June
While Apple hasn't signed a final deal yet, there's a good chance that ChatGPT will come to iOS 18. The next operating system for iPhones is likely to be announced in June, at Apple's annual developer show. Much is not known about iOS 18 yet, but it is clear that Apple wants to add many AI features to the operating system.
Apple wants to be a leader in AI
For example, Siri voice assistant may get a makeover. The new Siri should “become smarter than ChatGPT”. Earlier this year, CEO Tim Cook said that Apple will come up with a “breakthrough” in AI this year. At an investor meeting earlier this month, Cook also said, according to Bloomberg, that Apple will become an AI leader. “We believe we have benefits that will set us apart in this new era, including the unique combination of seamless integration of Apple hardware, software and services,” Cook said.
