The report shows that greenhouse gas emissions rose from 9.7 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2019 to 14.3 million tonnes in 2023, an increase of 48%. Google isn't alone; Microsoft reported a 30% increase in carbon emissions since 2020 through AI investments, complicating their net-zero emissions goal by 2030.
